THERE’S A BETTER WAY TO LEARN BJJ
Starting Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu can feel overwhelming. You walk into a room where everyone seems to know what they’re doing. They know the positions. They know what their opponent is trying to do. They know where they’re supposed to go next. And you’re just trying to figure it all out. At Next Level, we don’t believe brand-new students should simply be dropped into regular BJJ classes and expected to learn as they go. That’s why we created the Next Level BJJ Fundamentals Program. It’s a structured program specifically designed to give new students the foundation they need before transitioning into our Core BJJ Program.
A REAL BEGINNER CURRICULUM
This isn’t random “technique of the day.” Our Fundamentals Program follows an organized curriculum designed to make sure new students develop the skills they actually need. You’ll learn both: GI JIU-JITSU Fundamental positions, grips, sweeps, submissions, guard passing, positional control, takedowns and other essential Gi skills. NO-GI JIU-JITSU Fundamental positions, escapes, control, submissions, takedowns, clinching, self-defense, striking awareness and application. Our program alternates between Gi and No-Gi training, giving students a well-rounded foundation in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
WE DON’T JUST TEACH YOU TECHNIQUES WE TEACH YOU HOW TO USE THEM
Knowing a technique and being able to actually use it are two very different things. That’s why our Fundamentals Program progressively teaches students to: UNDERSTAND → PERFORM → RECOGNIZE → APPLY → CONNECT → GRAPPLE First, you learn how the technique works. Then you practice it. Then you learn to recognize when you need it. From there, resistance is gradually introduced. Eventually, you begin connecting techniques and positions together during real grappling. The goal isn’t simply to memorize moves. The goal is to learn Jiu-Jitsu.
YOU WON’T JUST BE THROWN INTO SPARRING
One of the most common questions beginners have is: “Am I going to have to fight someone on my first day?” No. We believe beginners should experience realistic resistance, but only as they develop the skills to handle it safely and intelligently. Your training progresses gradually through stages such as: Technical Training ↓ Reflex Development ↓ Controlled Resistance ↓ Positional Sparring ↓ Connected Positional Sparring ↓ Live BJJ Rolling Instead of simply throwing you into unrestricted sparring and hoping you figure things out, we’ll help you progressively develop the skills you need to actually grapple.
YOUR PROGRESS IS ACTUALLY TRACKED
You’re not simply showing up to class hoping that eventually everything starts to make sense. Your progress through the Fundamentals curriculum is tracked individually. As you complete curriculum lessons and develop your skills, we can see where you are in the program and what you still need to learn. Students are also periodically evaluated as they progress in areas such as:
- Technical development
- Understanding of fundamental positions
- Recognizing and applying techniques
- Ability to use skills against resistance
- Safety and control
- Overall development as a BJJ student
You’re not just attending classes. You’re progressing through a program.
A BEGINNER PROGRAM WITH AN ACTUAL FINISH LINE
Fundamentals isn’t where you stay forever. It’s where you start. As you progress, you’ll earn stripes recognizing your development through the program. Once you’ve completed the Fundamentals curriculum and met the graduation requirements, you’ll receive your Next Level Fundamentals Belt – a white belt with a blue stripe through the center. That belt signifies that you’ve successfully completed our Fundamentals Program and are prepared to transition into the next stage of your training: THE NEXT LEVEL CORE BJJ PROGRAM You’ll still be a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu white belt and continue progressing toward blue belt, but you’ll now have the foundational knowledge and experience necessary to take the next step in your BJJ journey.
